I haven't been able to make the Wednesday Santa Monica farmer's market my main shopping trip of the week. I'd been going on the weekends to the farmer's market because we run out of food by the time the weekend rolls around again. And this past week I forgot to go on Wednesday, so we would run out of food. We wouldn't be able to last until this coming Wednesday. I guess we could eat just beans for a few days, but yeah, um, that gets old. Maybe one day, but not 5.
I convinced my friend, Naomi, to go with me to the Santa Monica farmer's market today. I spent $20.
1. 3-pack Strawberries
2. cucumber
3. celery
4. 5lbs of oranges
5. 1lb snap peas
We LOVE strawberries, so I usually get them every week. I think I'll start buying some extra so I can start freezing them and we'll have strawberries through the winter. I use them in my protein shakes and the gf slices them up for her cereal. And the occasional snack.
I got the cucumber and celery to make salads. We still have spinach, tomato and carrots from last week.
I got the snap peas for stir fry. I still have some organic Japanese noodles, which are amazing!! I highly recommend these noodles. They're super tasty. The brand is Hakubaku. USDA Organic. I'm planning on making stir fry with the snap peas, spinach, carrots and celery. It's usually enough food for dinner and lunch the next day for both of us. Actually, it would probably be a bit more if I weren't such a pig, cause it's sooooo good!
I also went to Ralph's and picked up some margarine, vegan cheese slices and Hormel 100% Natural sandwich meat (Chicken). The Hormel box promises no antibiotics or hormones used. The bill at Ralph's was $10.27.
I usually give myself $30 for the farmer's market and $20 for the grocery store. I did give myself a $6 budget increase, but I'm going to try to stay within $50 a week. Although, it's okay if we go over a few dollars. With that said I have $19.73 left to spend this week. I'll probably use that at the Wednesday farmer's market.
